What is Krillion Sports?

It is a full Krillion dive with the prompt pool narrowed to sport. Seven prompts, one typed answer each, 25 seconds apiece, points by rarity. Sport is a good subject for this format because its knowledge is so unevenly distributed: almost everyone knows a handful of global names, and almost no one knows the same handful of small ones.

That unevenness is the game. A sports prompt does not ask whether you follow sport. It asks which layer of it you can reach in twenty-five seconds — the headline layer, the league layer, or the layer where the answer is a 1970s goalkeeper nobody has mentioned in a decade.

What's in the pack

The 8 prompts cover clubs, national teams, individual athletes, Olympic events and sports themselves. The shapes repeat, which is useful: once you know where the deep answers hide in one team prompt, you know where to look in the next one.

  • Teams and clubs — NFL franchises, NBA franchises, Premier League clubs.
  • National sides — World Cup hosts, World Cup winners, Olympic nations.
  • Individuals — tennis Grand Slam champions, where the big four crowd out everyone else.
  • Events and sports — Olympic sports and ice sports, two lists with a long tail of legitimate answers.
  • Equipment and rules — sports played with a ball, a small category with a surprisingly wide deep end.

How a sports dive runs

Seven prompts are dealt from the sports pool. Each answer is normalised and matched against the accepted list and its aliases, so case, accents and punctuation do not matter, and common short names are accepted alongside full ones. A match earns the tier's points, a miss earns nothing, and the results screen shows exactly which answers were accepted.

Because the pool is small, prompts repeat across dives. A team you blanked on in one dive will come back. The pack is a practice loop: play, read the misses, play again.

Why the famous team scores least

Sports fandom is tribal, but the canon is shared. Even people who do not watch the NFL can name the Cowboys; even people who do not follow tennis can name Federer. Those answers arrive first for almost everyone, which is precisely why they are worth ten points. Fame is not the same as difficulty, and the game scores crowding rather than knowledge.

The deep answer is usually a real, current-or-historic name that sits one layer below the headline: a franchise that has never won anything, a champion from a smaller country, an Olympic event added in the last decade, a player whose career peaked before the highlight-reel era.

One prompt, three eras

Prompt: “Name an NFL team”TierPointsDepth
Dallas Cowboys — the global defaultPlankton10100 m
Jacksonville Jaguars — a real step off the headlineRare60600 m
Arizona Cardinals — correct, and rarely the first team namedDeepest1001,000 m

The same logic works across eras. A tennis prompt rewards the player who remembers the 1980s and 1990s, not just the current top four; an Olympic prompt rewards the person who watched the newer events as well as the classics.

Finding the deep cut

  • Go to the bottom of the table. The team that finished last, the club that was promoted, the nation that qualified once.
  • Use the older era. Pre-1990 names are less rehearsed than current ones, even when they were famous at the time.
  • Leave the big five. Olympic sports and ice sports have dozens of valid answers that never appear on a highlight show.
  • Read the constraint. “Hosted the World Cup” and “won the World Cup” are different lists; the hosts list is longer and less crowded.

Traps that cost you points

The most common sports miss is not ignorance; it is ambiguity. “Cardinals” can mean an NFL team or a baseball team, and the prompt decides which one counts. A nickname that could fit two clubs may be rejected even though it is a real name. When a prompt names a league, use the league's team; when it names a country, use the country.

The second trap is the near-miss spelling of a player or a club with an apostrophe or a hyphen. The matcher strips punctuation, so most of these are safe, but a genuinely different name — a married name, a sponsored stadium name, an old franchise name — will not match. The results screen tells you, and the bank takes suggestions.

The sports pack in the bigger game

Sports is one of six themed packs, alongside geography, movies, music, food andhistory. A themed pack builds depth in one subject; the mixed game tests whether that depth survives when the subject changes every prompt. Most players find their pack score is higher than their mixed score — which is exactly the gap the main game is designed to expose.

Sports pack: frequently asked questions

Can I play Krillion Sports free online?

Yes. The pack is free and unlimited, runs in the browser and needs no account. Each dive deals seven sports prompts from the bank, with the same six rarity tiers as the main game.

Which sports and leagues are included?

The bank draws from football, basketball, tennis, the NFL, the Premier League, the Olympic programme and ice sports. A seven-prompt dive usually mixes leagues and eras rather than staying inside one competition.

Is there a Krillion sports prompt today?

The daily set rotates seven prompts across seven different categories, so a sports prompt appears most days. The sports-only pack always deals seven sports prompts, whatever the daily rotation is doing. Today's set is listed on the answers page.

Do Krillion Sports answers need the full team name?

No. Matching ignores case and punctuation, and each team carries short aliases — Cowboys for Dallas Cowboys, Niners for the 49ers, Spurs for Tottenham. A nickname that clearly identifies the team is accepted.

Is there a Krillion Sports app?

No app is needed. The game is a website built mobile-first, so it runs in the browser on iOS and Android without an install. Adding it to your home screen works too, but there is nothing to download from a store.

Is this the official Krillion sports pack?

No. This is an independent, fan-made game with its own prompts and its own hand-graded answer bank. It is not affiliated with krillion.io or any league or broadcaster.
